Australia returns 29 antiquities to India ahead of PM Modi-Scott Morrison virtual summit

India-Australia 2nd digital summit: Forward of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s digital summit together with his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison on Monday (March 21), Australia has handed over as many as 29 antiquities to India, which is seen as a lift to New Delhi’s bid to get again the nation’s heritage from internationally.

The antiquities vary in six broad classes as per themes- Shiva and his disciples, Worshipping Shakti, Lord Vishnu and his kinds, Jain traditions, portraits and ornamental objects. These antiquities come from completely different time durations, with earlier ones courting to 9-10 century CE.

These are primarily sculptures and work executed in a wide range of supplies – sandstone, marble, bronze, brass, paper. Representing a big geographical area in India, antiquities are from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and West Bengal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inspected the antiquities returned by Australia.

The repatriated antiquities consists of Shiva Bhairav, a Ninth-Tenth century CE Rajasthan Sandstone, the child-saint Sambandar from twelfth century CE, and seated Jina sculpture from Mount Abu area, Rajasthan.Different antiquities repatriated consists of the portrait of Maharaja Sir Kishen Pershad Yamin Lala Deen Dayal, memorial portrait of Hiralal A Gandhi, and untitled ‘Manorath’ portrait of donor and monks earlier than Shri Nathji, Nathdwara.
