Members of a Jewish settler group on Sunday moved into the Petra Resort, in occupied East Jerusalem’s Outdated Metropolis, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported.
Palestinian Christians in Jerusalem think about the resort “a strategic constructing that might have an effect on the character of the Outdated Metropolis’s whole Christian Quarter,” based on the Israeli paper.

The constructing has been the topic of an 18-years-long battle between the settler group Ateret Cohanim and the Greek Orthodox Patriarch. The Jewish settler group claims, based on Haaretz, that the constructing was “purchased from the earlier Greek Orthodox patriarch, Irenaios, in a controversial deal”.
Present patriarch Theophilos III tried to repudiate the deal, with no success, because the settlement was ratified by the Israeli Jerusalem District Court docket and later by the Supreme Court docket.

On Sunday, Jewish settlers, escorted by Israeli police, seized Petra’s first flooring. Israeli forces arrested three Palestinians and prevented the Qirresh household, the resort’s tenants, from coming into the constructing, based on the official Palestinian information company WAFA.
