Simon Maghakyan acknowledges the injury executed by Armenia to Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage (“A Vicious Circle of Cultural Erasure,” Homes of Worship, March 25) however claims that “there is no such thing as a proof of a scientific, not to mention state-sponsored, erasure.”
I’m from Fuzuli, occupied by Armenia in 1993 once I was 10. Town misplaced all its infrastructure, along with the cultural heritage, as a result of occupation. The beforehand Armenian-occupied territories, residence to nearly 750,000 Azerbaijanis pressured to flee in 1992-93, is now nearly completely devoid of buildings. Given the dimensions of the injury, I don’t imagine this was something however systematic and state coverage. Thus far, Armenia has neither apologized nor paid compensation.
