Indian Postal Division will subject a stamp to mark 50 years of Pandit Jasraj’s Pt. Motiram Pt. Maniram Sangeet Samaroha. It’s an annual classical music competition held yearly at Chowmahalla Palace in Hyderabad in November. The competition was organised by the famous classical singer Pandit Jasraj in reminiscence of his father and brother, each classical musicians. The competition was began in 1972.

Pandit Jasraj, the 90-year-old music doyen, belonged to the Mewati Gharana. He handed away in August 2020 following a cardiac arrest at his dwelling in New Jersey, USA. He was a recipient of a number of prestigious accolades together with Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan. Pandit Jasraj is survived by his spouse Madhura, son Shaarang and daughter Durga Jasraj, each musicians. After his dying, Pandit Jasraj’s mortal stays have been dropped at Mumbai and final rites took place at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Vile Parle.
Durga Jasraj, the daughter of Pandit Jasraj, reacted to the information of the commemorative stamp in honour of her father’s music competition. She wrote on Instagram, “Our whole household, college students & Music lovers, will stay eternally grateful to you Sir, for deeming it match to commemorate the fiftieth 12 months of Pandit Jasraj’s Pt Motiram – Pt Maniram Sangeet Samaroha! This homage will STAMP it is presence in India’s wealthy musical heritage Jai Ho (sic).”
