Orphanage groundbreaking in Afghanistan, 2005

Herat, Afghanistan, March 30, 2005: Women from the native orphanage, wearing conventional festive garments, sing a track throughout a groundbreaking ceremony for a brand new ladies’ orphanage. The brand new 16-room orphanage, with a kitchen, eating corridor, bogs and showers, was one of many final initiatives for the American Herat Provincial Reconstruction Group earlier than turning the mission over to the Italians.
