Ruben Khachatryan has made it his mission to avoid wasting the captive bears of Armenia from a lifetime of neglect and distress.
Throughout Armenia, bears are being saved in captivity beneath horrible situations – locked up in tiny, filthy cages, usually subsisting on meals scraps and rancid water. It’s a unhappy legacy of Armenia’s Soviet-era previous when it was modern to maintain unique animals in personal zoos as a standing image or to draw guests to a administrative center.
Ruben Khachatryan runs the Nice Bear Rescue, a mercy mission to rehabilitate these captive bears in a sanctuary within the mountains of Armenia. Right here, the bears can dwell out their lives with correct diets, medical consideration and freedom.
“You are feeling chargeable for these animals,” says Ruben. “I really feel like they want ambassadors to … battle for them.”
