Presbyterian Church Declares Israel Apartheid State

• The US Presbyterian Church voted to declare Israel’s actions towards Palestinians apartheid.
• Jewish organizations argued the transfer is antisemitic, calling the allegation “offensive and false.”

In a transfer Jewish organizations are condemning as antisemitic, the Presbyterian Church USA voted to declare that the actions of the Israeli authorities towards the folks of Palestine meets the authorized definition of apartheid. 

Commissioners of 225^th Common Meeting of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) voted 266 to 116 of their annual assembly to make public the church’s stance that each affirms the fitting of Israel to offer safety to its borders and criticizes human rights offenses perpetrated towards Palestinians.  

“In 2018, Israel handed a nation-state regulation, which declares the excellence between Jews and non-Jews basic and legit, and permits institutional discrimination in land administration and growth, housing, citizenship, language and tradition. This resolution amongst many different practices have confirmed that the insurance policies and practices of Israel represent apartheid,” learn a letter by Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II, said clerk of the final meeting of the Presbyterian Church.

The clerk’s letter added the Presbyterian Church, which consists of over 1.7 million members, acknowledges the legitimacy of the Israeli state nevertheless it opposes persevering with occupation of Palestine, which it declared to be “illegitimate, unlawful beneath worldwide regulation, and a permanent risk to peace within the area.” 

Nelson has beforehand described Israeli insurance policies towards Palestinians as “enslavement,” angering some Jewish organizations. The most recent letter has garnered related reactions, with some accusing the clerk and the Presbyterian Church itself of being antisemitic.

“Jewish Federations are usually not stunned by the most recent antisemitic motion taken by Presbyterian Church USA PC (USA) in its vote to undertake a decision calling Israel an apartheid state. There was a time when their phrases mattered. That point is lengthy gone.” The Jewish Federations of North America said in a statement. “This decision does nothing to additional peace or foster a greater future for Christians, Jews, and Muslims; Palestinians or Israelis. Its solely intention is to demonize the Jews and Israel with the offensive and false allegation of apartheid.”

Rabbi Noam E. Marans, director for interreligious and intergroup relations for the American Jewish Committee told The Washington Post the Presbyterian Church’s stance is a “tragedy.” 

“Presbyterians and Jews within the pews want and need one another with the intention to handle the problems which can be most difficult in America as we speak,” Marans advised The Put up. “This prevents that from occurring.”

The letter written on behalf of Presbyterian management said that the church stays “dedicated” to combating antisemitism, in addition to all types of violence and discrimination.
