KABUL, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) — The Afghan caretaker authorities has begun renovation and repairing of Bagram airfield, a former U.S. navy base within the nation, to make the navy airport operational, the Protection Ministry stated in an announcement on Wednesday.
“In keeping with instruction of the management of the Protection Ministry, the engineering group of the ministry started the work for reconstruction, renovation and repairing of Bagram airport right now (Wednesday) to reactivate it,” the assertion added.
The airport, 50 km north of the capital Kabul, served as the primary navy base of the U.S.-led forces throughout their 20-year presence in Afghanistan until late August 2021.
In accordance with the Protection Ministry, U.S. troops had destroyed all amenities on the airport earlier than evacuating the war-torn nation on Aug. 30 final yr.
“The engineering group of the protection ministry with its restricted assets would do its finest to restore and reactivate Bagram airport within the earliest attainable time,” the ministry stated.
