Oman has enough wheat reserves for six months, says Oman Flour Mills

DUBAI, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Oman has about 400,000 tonnes of wheat in storage, sufficient reserves to cowl six months, Oman Flour Mills’ chief working officer stated on Wednesday.

The final wheat cargo to reach was two weeks in the past, a purchase order from Ukraine of about 30,000 tonnes after the U.N.-brokered grain export deal, Ibrahim al-Amri informed Reuters on the sidelines of an trade convention in Dubai.

A framework settlement brokered by Turkey and the United Nations enabled Ukraine to renew exports from its Black Sea ports in early August, having been stalled for 5 months after Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion.

“I’d say its an interim resolution not a permenant resolution,” Amri stated in regards to the grain export hall, including that logisitcal difficulties in transferring volumes after many months have been a problem.

“Possibly it delays the disaster, however it isn’t an answer,” he stated.

Oman Flour Mills processes about 60% of the nation’s whole annual imports of 800,000 tonnes, Amri stated. It exports extra manufacturing, largely to Yemen and East Africa.
