Human Rights Watch is looking out abuses of LGBT folks in Qatar forward of the World Cup.
The worldwide group claims safety forces within the Center East nation have “arbitrarily arrested lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) folks and subjected them to ill-treatment in detention.”
Human Rights Watch mentioned it has documented six circumstances of extreme beatings and 5 circumstances of sexual harassment in police custody. The group says the incidents occurred between 2019 and 2022.
“Whereas Qatar prepares to host the World Cup, safety forces are detaining and abusing LGBT folks merely for who they’re, apparently assured that the safety drive abuses will go unreported and unchecked,” mentioned Rasha Younes, LGBT rights researcher at Human Rights Watch. “Qatari authorities want to finish impunity for violence towards LGBT folks.
