Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha will go to Laos for the foundation-laying ceremony of the fifth Friendship Bridge over the Mekong River on Friday.
Gen Prayut would be the visitor of honour of Lao PM Phankham Viphavanh, authorities spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri stated on Thursday.
Mr Anucha stated the ceremony, when Gen Prayut is predicted to put part of the inspiration, was mentioned in June when Mr Phankham visited Thailand.
Upon completion, the 1.1-billion-baht bridge and its approaches will stretch for 15 kilometres, crossing the Mekong River and linking Thailand’s Bueng Kan province with Laos’ Bolikhamxai.
The bridge was constructed underneath the Higher Mekong Subregion financial collaboration settlement between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
The bridge will present an alternative choice to ferry providers between Thailand and Laos and facilitate journey to China’s Guangxi autonomous area.
Building began in 2020, with about 57% now full. Completion is scheduled for 2024. “The go to consists of not solely the ceremony but in addition a bilateral assembly between the nations on financial growth,” Mr Anucha stated.
