The freight practice reached the railway station in northern West Bengal’s Alipurduar district late on Friday evening and the automobiles had been taken by street to the adjoining Himalayan kingdom on Saturday morning, they mentioned.
Dilip Kumar Singh, Alipurduar Divisional Railway Supervisor of the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) mentioned this was a first-of-its-kind initiative and extra items could be delivered sooner or later based mostly on demand from Bhutan.
“We’re creating infrastructure at Hasimara Railway Station, which is strategically situated for doing enterprise with Bhutan. We’re constructing a siding, and have plans to assemble a godown in collaboration with the Central Warehousing Company. We wish to deal with all sorts of commodities and this was just the start,” he mentioned.
