ULAN BATOR (XINHUA) – Not less than eight Mongolian provinces are prone to expertise the intense wintry climate “dzud” this winter, native media reported yesterday, citing official sources.
“Out of all of the 21 Mongolian provinces, not less than eight provinces, specifically Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs, Zavkhan, Khovd and Govi-Altai within the west, Bayankongor within the south-west, in addition to Arkhangai and Uvurkhangai within the centre are prone to expertise dzud or near-dzud situations this winter,” the nation’s Ministry of Meals, Agriculture and Gentle Trade stated in a press release.
A dzud is a brutal climate phenomenon through which a dry summer season adopted by a frigid winter kills huge numbers of livestock, both by hunger or freezing temperatures.
In line with the ministry, the federal government has saved 15,500 tonnes of hay and 4,800 tonnes of fodder for livestock to assist them overcome the attainable harsh winter.
