President Ranil Wickremesinghe stated within the 2023 Funds speech that the federal government would impose a tax of Rs.2 on a beedi.
“I recommend a tax of Rs.2 per beedi to streamline the beedi trade and to discourage folks from utilizing beedis. Other than this, the charges to be paid for acquiring certificates and licenses may even be elevated,” he stated.
