JAKARTA, Dec 25 (Bernama) — Dozens of Rohingya refugees landed on the shores of Indonesia’s Aceh province on Sunday following calls for from humanitarian organisations to permit them to disembark after being adrift at sea for a month reported dpa.
State information company Antara reported that 57 Rohingya males reached the shores of Aceh Besar district. A few of them had been reportedly sick. There have been no fast stories of any ladies or youngsters amongst them.
Native police chief Rolly Yuiza Away stated the boys had been resting on the shore and that authorities had but to find out what to do with them, information portal Detik.com reported.
Members of the Rohingya minority have been fleeing persecution of their house state of Rakhine in Myanmar and dire situations in refugee camps in Bangladesh.
UNHRC on Friday issued an announcement calling regional governments to rescue a minimum of 190 Rohingya folks adrift between the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
Based on UNHCR, they had been in an unseaworthy vessel with little or no meals and water and as much as 20 folks died throughout the journey.
“It’s devastating to be taught that many individuals have already misplaced their lives, together with youngsters. Sadly, this makes it one of many deadliest years within the seas within the area,” Indrika Ratwatte, UNHCR’s Director for Asia and the Pacific, stated in an announcement.
