Cupboard approval has been granted to ban the import, home manufacture, sale and native use of single use plastic merchandise with impact from June 1, 2023.
Proposals relating to import, home manufacturing, sale and native use of Single Use Plastic or Polythene merchandise have been mentioned within the Cupboard Assembly held on August 30, 2021 and determined to nominate a committee of specialists to look at the proposals and submit a report with suggestions.
Accordingly, the Cupboard of Ministers authorized the proposal introduced by the Minister of Atmosphere to ban the import, home manufacture, sale and native use of single-use plastic ingesting straws and stirrers, single-use plastic plates, cups (besides yogurt cups), spoons, forks and knives, together with yogurt spoons fabricated from plastic, plastic garlands, string hopper moulds fabricated from plastic.
