India’s drug regulator DCGI has written to drug controllers of all states and Union territories and the Pharmacy Council of India asking them to make sure that pharmacists are bodily current in retail medical shops and that medicines are bought beneath their direct supervision. In a letter, Medicine Controller Normal of India (DCGI) Dr Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi sought strict implementation of part 42 (a) of the Pharmacy Act 1947 and Guidelines 65 of the Medicine and Cosmetics Act 1945 in retail pharmacies.
“Be certain that pharmacists are bodily current within the retail pharmacies/medical shops, and that medicines are bought/allotted beneath their direct supervision. Be certain that no prescription drugs is bought/allotted from the retail medicines store with out a correct and legitimate prescription,” the DCGI stated within the letter despatched on March 9.
The drug regulator referred to a letter from Suresh Khanna, Nationwide Normal Secretary, IPA, Mumbai which highlighted points pertaining to implementation of Part 42(a) of the Pharmacy Act 1947 and Guidelines 65 of the Medicine and Cosmetics Act 1945 in retail pharmacies.
