Paradise Misplaced, Might 1
I used to be appalled to study of an act of vandalism by Toronto Group Housing Corp. (TCHC) that concerned eradicating a lovely Victoria-inspired backyard at 133 Broadview Ave. and changing it with a barren grime area. The backyard had been lovingly created over 10 years and paid for by tenant-artist Brian Gorrell. Gorrell was ordered by TCH to make modifications to the backyard for security causes which he was unable to make by the deadline resulting from sick well being. The answer for TCH, which refused to grant Gorrell an extension, was to tear the whole lot down with brutal effectivity.
The destruction of this beautiful shared house is not going to be alleviated by TCHC’s assertion that it’s prepared to work with residents “to plan and fund a redesigned group house … if the group is .”
