The Nationwide Meeting on Tuesday handed the Contempt of Parliament Invoice 2023.
Rana Qasim Midday introduced the Contempt of Parliament Invoice, 2023 within the Home for approval.
Earlier, a gathering of the Nationwide Meeting was held beneath the chairmanship of Speaker Nationwide Meeting Raja Pervez Ashraf during which the contempt invoice was mentioned.
Expressing his views, Federal Training Minister Rana Tanveer stated that the contempt of parliament invoice was an essential piece of laws. He stated the standing committee guidelines also needs to be amended. He complained that officers didn’t take heed to the calls of MPs.
“Earlier there was no legislation on insulting parliament, now we won’t settle for even insult of committees of the parliament,” he stated. Rana Qasim Midday, the initiator of the invoice, instructed the Home that the contempt invoice was essential.
“If anybody insults this home in future, he shall be punished. We now have been engaged on this invoice for the final 4 years,” he added. Underneath the invoice, he stated, contempt of the Home can be punishable with six months imprisonment and a superb as much as Rs 10 million or each.
“Underneath this invoice, any authorities or state official may be summoned for contempt of parliament,” he elaborated. A 24-member parliamentary committee will examine contempt of parliament instances. The committee will embrace 50 % members of the opposition and 50 % of the federal government.
The Contempt Committee will suggest the punishment to the speaker or the Senate chairman on the grievance report, after which the speaker or the Senate Chairman can announce the punishment on the involved individual.
