SINGAPORE: After Nomination Day proceedings on Aug 22, Tommy Koh has come out to point out his help for presidential candidate Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
In a Fb put up on Tuesday (Aug 22), Ambassador-at-large Tommy Koh mentioned he’s a good friend of all three presidential candidates—Ng Kok Track, Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Tan Kin Lian. Whereas every has his advantage, Prof Koh added that after due consideration, he determined to help Mr Tharman.
“First, Tharman is a unifying chief. He has transcended race and is a frontrunner for all Singaporeans. The voters of his constituency, in Taman Jurong, have repeatedly given him a thumping majority within the Basic Elections. The truth that his Singaporean spouse, Jane, is an element Chinese language and half Japanese reinforces his message of inter-racial concord and multiculturalism”, he wrote.
Prof Koh added that Mr Tharman is “properly ready” to train his custodial position over Singapore’s reserves and appointments to key positions in public service due to his personal over 20 years within the public service.
He mentioned that he believes Mr Tharman has an unbiased thoughts, has ethical braveness and won’t compromise his integrity. “If confronted with an unreasonable request to make use of our reserves, I imagine that he can have the braveness to say, no. If requested to approve the appointment of an unqualified particular person for a key put up within the public service, I don’t assume he’ll hesitate to reject the appointment”, Prof Koh wrote.
He mentioned that Mr Tharman would characterize Singapore in an exemplary method and “fly our flag excessive”.

Former GIC chief funding officer Mr Ng, former Senior Minister Mr Tharman and former NTUC Earnings chief government Mr Tan filed their nomination papers on the Folks’s Affiliation headquarters at King George’s Avenue on Tuesday morning (Aug 22).
Singaporeans will go to the polls on Sept 1, a public vacation. All campaigning should cease by Cooling-off Day, which is on Aug 31.
