KABUL, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) — The final two Afghan prisoners who had been within the U.S.-run Guantanamo jail for years have been let loose and returned to Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Monday, the state-run Bakhtar information company reported.
“Two Afghan prisoners previously held on the Guantanamo Bay detention camp have returned to Kabul, marking the completion of the discharge course of for all detainees related to the Islamic Emirate,” the information company stated, with out offering extra particulars.
Following the invasion of U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan in late 2001, which led to the dismissal of the then Taliban-led Islamic Emirate, the U.S. army arrested numerous Afghans together with Taliban members on the cost of cooperation with the al-Qaida terror community and shifted them to the Guantanamo jail.
Former detainees included some serving rating officers of the Afghan caretaker authorities.
