A brand new planet begins its life in a rotating circle of fuel and dirt, a cradle often called a protostellar disk. My colleagues and I’ve used laptop simulations to point out that new child fuel planets in these disks are prone to have surprisingly flattened shapes. This discovering, printed in Astronomy and Astrophysics Letters, might add to our image of precisely how planets type.
