The Election Fee of Pakistan (ECP) has introduced the election schedule on the six vacant seats within the Senate.
Six seats have been declared vacant when the Senate members have been elected as members of different homes.
These six senate seats together with election schedule for one vacant seat in Islamabad, two in Sindh and three vacant seats in Balochistan.
As per schedule, nomination papers may be collected on March 2 and three. The elections shall be held on three vacant seats of Balochistan, two of Sindh and certainly one of Islamabad.
The Punjab Meeting will elect twelve members of the Senate within the month of March, together with seven normal seats, two ladies’s seats, two technocrat seats and one minority seat.
On March 8, 2024, 11 senators from Punjab will full their time period.
Amongst those that resigned, 4 senators are from PML-N on normal seats — Asif Kirmani, Mossadegh Malik, Rana Mahmoodul Hasan and Khalid Shaheen Butt.
Two senators of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will retire after finishing their time period. Dr. Shahzad Wasim and Waleed Iqbal are among the many retirees of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Two senators from Punjab on the seats reserved for ladies may also retire in March.
PMLN-backed Nizhat Sadiq and PTI-backed Sami Ezadi whereas two facilities may also retire on the particular seats of technocrat and Ulama together with PML-N supported Ishaq Dar and Hafiz Abdul Akrim.
Kamran Michael can also be retiring from Punjab on the seat reserved for minorities. Senator Maqbool Ahmed from Punjab died in September 2023. – INP
