SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Yonhap) — Protection Minister Ahn Gyu-back on Tuesday apologized over the army’s involvement in former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s failed martial legislation bid final December.
Ahn issued the apology in a Fb publish only a day earlier than the primary anniversary, because the now-ousted Yoon imposed the short-lived martial legislation on Dec. 3. At the moment, the protection ministry was underneath the helm of his predecessor, Kim Yong-hyun.
“I formally apologize on behalf of the army for endangering the individuals, leaving a deep wound on the vast majority of harmless service members, and for committing the grave crime of trespassing on the Nationwide Meeting and the Nationwide Election Fee,” Ahn wrote.
Ahn mentioned upon his appointment as the primary civilian protection minister in 64 years that he promised to rebuild the army into one for the individuals and break from a previous wherein the army was “wasted as a device for emergency martial legislation.”
“I’ve made each effort from the start, believing that every step we take will function a historic milestone in ending the riot and establishing civilian management,” he added.
Army and police forces have been deployed to the Nationwide Meeting on the evening of the martial legislation imposition to stop lawmakers from voting down the decree.
High generals appointed by Yoon, together with Military Chief of Employees Gen. Park An-su, who served because the martial legislation commander and former head of the Protection Counterintelligence Command, Lt. Gen. Yeo In-hyung, are at the moment underneath trial for taking part in a key function within the riot.
