Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi for profitable a bronze medal on the World Blitz Championships in Doha, saying it mirrored the nation’s speedy strides within the sport.

 

Erigaisi topped the Swiss Spherical with 15 factors, beating a number of the high contenders together with world No.1 Magnus Carlsen, however was defeated by Uzbek GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov 2.5-1.5 within the semifinal to accept a third-place end.

The PM had congratulated Erigaisi and Grandmaster Koneru Humpy after they gained the World Fast bronze in ‘Open’ and Ladies’s classes respectively on Sunday.

Humpy, who had entered the event as defending champion, couldn’t win a 3rd World Fast title, regardless of tying for the highest spot with two others, as she was accomplished in by a global chess federation (FIDE) tie-break rule, which has are available for harsh criticism.

Humpy had gained her first World Fast title in 2019 and repeated the feat final yr.
