UN: 3 dead, 28 missing after migrant raft sinks off of Yemen

CAIRO (AP) — The United Nations says a raft carrying African migrants searching for a greater life within the Gulf Arab states sank in waters off of Yemen late final month, leaving three lifeless and 28 others declared lacking,  In an announcement on Monday, the U.N.’s migration company says the overcrowded vessel carrying about 30 migrants departed jap Djibouti for Yemen’s west coast. Witnesses mentioned the small raft was quickly overpowered by “excessive tides and rocky waters” and shortly sank. To this point this 12 months round 54,000 migrants have departed the Horn of Africa for the Gulf Arab states. Many migrants have drowned attempting to make the eastward crossing. Almost all of the migrants arriving in Yemen are East Africans.
