SINGAPORE: An employer took her maid to Batam and deserted her there as a result of the helper failed to organize breakfast that day.
The employer, 51-year-old Hong Xuanyu, was fined S$13,000 for failing to return Islahatul to her house city and for violating employment rules by ordering her maid to help at Hong’s hawker stall with out a legitimate work allow. She pleaded responsible to the 2 costs underneath the Employment of Overseas Manpower Act.
After her Indonesian helper, Islahatul Alif didn’t put together breakfast as she needed, Hong instructed her maid that she would ship her house to Surabaya for a 10-day trip through Batam.
The helper initially refused for concern of being fired when she returned house, however Hong assured Islahatul that she wouldn’t get replaced.
Hong returned Islahatul’s cellphone on the Singapore Cruise Centre and gave her a wage of S$350 after deducting the ferry ticket value. She then requested a buddy to cancel her helper’s work allow.
After they arrived in Batam that day, Hong instructed the helper to take a taxi to the airport and fly house to Surabaya. She didn’t pay for the taxi fare nor the air ticket and did not return Islahatul her work allow card.
Hong then took a ferry again to Singapore, leaving Islahatul alone on the Indonesian island. The maid’s cellphone was lifeless, and he or she was away from house.
The helper requested a taxi driver for assist and used the driving force’s cellphone to name her employment agent in Singapore, who organized for her to remain at a buddy’s home in Batam till they introduced her again to Singapore. /TISG
