Caretaker Federal Minister for Data, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi on Friday stated that the federal government had obtained no sign from “any quarter” to postpone the final election, scheduled to be held on February 8.
The assertion got here after the Senate handed a decision in search of a delay in elections citing safety issues.
The decision, offered by unbiased Senator Dilawar Khan, was opposed by Solangi and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Afnan Ullah Khan.

Solely the Election Fee of Pakistan (ECP), he stated, had the constitutional authority to postpone the elections.
“In line with Article 218(3) of the Structure, it was the facility of the ECP, to conduct elections, give a date or change the date for elections,” he stated. “We can not intrude within the affairs of a constitutional physique.”
The minister lamented that he didn’t get an opportunity to provide arguments within the decision on the postponement of the elections within the higher home.
