Whereas a common ban on car imports continues, the Labour and Overseas Employment Ministry is to import a Sport Utility Automobile (SUV) below the amended Imports and Exports (Management) Act after it secured Cupboard approval, in keeping with a gazette notification.
In accordance with this notification issued to amend the Imports and Exports (Management) Act, No. 1 of 1969, laws had been launched to permit the importation of chosen autos for 3 ministries and nationwide service SriLankan Airways.
Along with the SUV, two buses for the Schooling Ministry, three cellular maternity models, and 21 double cabs for the Well being Ministry, together with an economy-class Ramp coach for Sri Lankan Airways, are to be imported below the amended gazette notification.
The Gazette, dated January 11, was issued by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capability as Minister of Finance, Financial Stabilisation, and Nationwide Insurance policies. “These laws are issued as per the choice of the Cupboard of Ministers dated December 11, final yr, on Memorandum No. 23/2288/628/105/TBR dated November 28, 2023, submitted by the Minister of Ports, Delivery and Aviation learn along with the Observations of the Minister of Finance, Financial Stabilization and Nationwide Insurance policies dated December 06, 2023,” the gazette reads.
Accordingly, the Customs Director Common was instructed to permit the importation of the autos based mostly on the advice of the Chief Accounting Officer of the respective ministry and subjected to different prevailing guidelines and laws relevant to the importation of motor autos.
