Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin will run as a candidate within the election for President of World Boxing, the previous middleweight world champion stated in a press release on Friday.

Golovkin, as soon as thought of the very best pound-for-pound boxer on the earth and winner of a silver medal on the 2004 Olympic Video games in Athens, was appointed president of Kazakhstan’s Nationwide Olympic Committee in 2024.

He’ll run towards Mariolis Charilaos, who was President of the Hellenic Boxing Federation from 2021 to 2025.

Present World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst stated in September that he wouldn’t search re-election, citing the relentless calls for of main the breakaway organisation and years of worldwide journey as his causes for stepping down.

World Boxing, established in 2023, has changed the Russian-led Worldwide Boxing Affiliation as the game’s world governing physique after the IBA was stripped of recognition.

The brand new organisation faces the duty of safeguarding boxing’s Olympic future following the 2024 Paris Video games.

“Our mission for 2026 is evident: to realize full IOC recognition and to ensure our place in Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032,” Golovkin stated in a press release.

The 43-year-old, who retired from the ring three years in the past, had a report of 345 wins from 350 fights as an newbie boxer earlier than successful a number of middleweight world titles.

The vote for a brand new President will happen on November 23 in the course of the World Boxing Congress in Rome, Italy.
