ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka Cupboard has accredited a proposal to ascertain the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund, aimed toward rebuilding the nation following the extreme devastation attributable to Cyclone ‘Ditwah’, the federal government stated.

The price of the injury as a result of catastrophe, which is likely one of the worst pure disasters in Sri Lanka’s latest historical past, is but to be know. Nonetheless, some analysts estimate it far more than the rebuilding value spent after Tsunami devastation in 2004.

The Fund is to be established as a statutory fund below the Presidential Secretariat and its Administration Committee will comprise representatives from each the private and non-private sectors.

Anil Jayantha Fernando, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, will function the Chairman of the Committee, whereas Mr. G. M. R. D. Aponsu, Senior Further Secretary to the President, will function the Convener.

The opposite members of the Committee are:

  • Hanif Yusuf, Governor of the Western Province and Particular Consultant of the President for International Investments
  • Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance
  • Duminda Hulangamuwa, Senior Financial Adviser to the President
  • Sugeeshwara Gunawadhana, Director Basic on the Ministry of International Affairs
  • Mohan Pandithage, Chairman, Hayleys Group
  • Krishan Balendra, Chairman, John Keells
  • Parakrama Dissanayake, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director, Aitken Spence
  • Ashroff Omar, Group Chief Government Officer, Brandix
  • Ishara Nanayakkara, Government Chairman, LOLC Holdings

The President’s Media Division (PMD) stated the Administration Committee shall be empowered to make sure the efficient administration of the Fund, together with assessing necessities, setting priorities, allocating assets and disbursing funds for accredited restoration actions.

Contributions to the fund could also be made by any donor, native or abroad, both in Sri Lankan Rupees or in any international forex, to the next Financial institution of Ceylon account:
