Bangkok –

Cambodia on Wednesday withdrew its workforce from the Southeast Asian Video games in Thailand for security causes, as a border battle between the 2 neighbors raged for a 3rd day.

In a letter to organizers, the Nationwide Olympic Committee of Cambodia mentioned it made the choice as a consequence of “severe issues” and requests from households of athletes to permit them to return house.

Preventing erupted between Thailand and Cambodia on Monday, the second main flare-up between them this 12 months, derailing a fragile truce brokered in July by U.S. President Donald Trump.

A whole lot of 1000’s of individuals have been displaced by heavy exchanges of artillery from either side and air strikes by Thai fighter jets. Officers say at the very least 14 folks have been killed and 88 injured on this week’s clashes.

“NOCC should withdraw all of our delegation and prepare for his or her immediate return to Cambodia for security causes,” the committee mentioned within the letter launched on Wednesday, a day after the workforce attended the opening ceremony of the Video games in Bangkok.

“The choice was not made flippantly,” it mentioned.

Cambodia was ranked fourth within the medals desk when it hosted the final Video games in 2023. This 12 months’s version is being contested in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla.
