Plans to show Tenby’s former Poundland and Royal Playhouse cinema right into a retro laptop gaming lounge have been lodged with the nationwide park authority. After funding agency Gordon Brothers took management, Poundland closed 57 shops earlier this yr together with the White Lion Road department in Tenby.

In a submission to Pembrokeshire Coast Nationwide Park Matthew Mileson from Newport-based MB Video games Ltd is requesting approval for a change of use of the previous Gatehouse (Playhouse) Cinema, latterly operated as a Poundland retailer, to a retro gaming lounge.

This follows a not too long ago submitted software for a ‘CONTINUE? Retro Gaming Lounge’ signal on the entrance of the previous cinema, forward of the broader scheme for a retro gaming facility on the former cinema web site, which has a Grade-II-listed entrance façade.

A supporting doc for the change of use proposal via agent Asbri Planning Ltd states: “The proposed retro gaming lounge will probably be inviting to all ages, together with households, teams and people with no age restriction. The applicant has a number of comparable premises throughout different elements of the UK and operates beneath a profitable enterprise mannequin.

“This features a price being payable to enter the premises which thereby grants entry to limitless recreation time to all consoles/arcade machines. There will probably be no slot or coin-based reward video games, so the proposal wouldn’t be thought of/classed as playing. The positioning will present snacks and drinks (together with alcohol) which will probably be canned/bottled drinks.

“The sale of such drinks can be ancillary to the general perform of the premises and a separate alcohol licence will probably be submitted accordingly.”

It continues: “The event would supply a much-welcomed addition to White Lion Highway which is able to enhance the vitality and viability of the speedy space by selling better ranges of footfall inside the space and introduce better selection to the procuring frontage at this location.”

It suggests working instances of 10am-10pm, Sunday to Thursday, and till 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The proposal, together with the related signage plans, will probably be reviewed by council planners at a future date.

Earlier than changing into a Poundland the constructing housed the Royal Playhouse, which closed its doorways for good in early 2011 after working for nearly a century.

The cinema had been doing poor enterprise after the opening of a multiplex in Carmarthen; in late 2010the opening evening of the-then newest Harry Potter blockbuster solely attracted an viewers of 12 folks.
