KABUL, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) — Wearing nationwide apparel and praying for his staff’s victory, Abdul Sattar was hopeful that the Baghlan staff might win the continuing championship of Buzkashi, or goat-grabbing, in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital.

A staunch supporter of Buzkashi and the proprietor of two horses within the competitors, Sattar, 42, proudly shared that he had purchased one in every of his horses for 13,000 U.S. {dollars} from Kyrgyzstan and the second for 11,000 U.S. {dollars}, hoping they’d deliver honor to his provincial staff.

Buzkashi, a centuries-old nationwide sport, is common in Afghanistan and neighboring Central Asian international locations. To achieve an edge, Afghan groups and their supporters generally rent riders and buy horses from these neighboring nations.

At the moment, groups from 11 of the nation’s 34 provinces are competing within the championship, which started on Dec. 11 and is ready to conclude on Dec. 22. The Afghanistan Nationwide Federation of Buzkashi, businesspeople, and peculiar residents will honor the successful groups with money prizes, luxurious automobiles, and horses.

In line with some Afghans, many years of conflict, international invasions and civil strife have broken the unity of the multi-ethnic society. They consider that organizing sports activities competitions, particularly the nationwide sport of Buzkashi, can strengthen nationwide unity.

“Usually, sporting occasions foster social unity, however Buzkashi, specifically, strengthens brotherhood and peace. The 1000’s of spectators right here immediately are proof of that,” onlooker Sayed Abdul Manan advised Xinhua.

A resident of northern Badakhshan province who traveled about 12 hours by bus over rugged terrain to look at the competition, Manan added, “Buzkashi is our conventional heritage. We like it and should help it.”

Echoing these sentiments, Sarwar Jalal, head of the Afghanistan Nationwide Federation of Buzkashi, said that the gathering of as much as 5,000 followers from throughout Afghanistan clearly demonstrates the sport’s reputation within the post-war society.
