On the United Nations Safety Council (UNSC), Pakistan has strongly condemned the “unilateral and illegal” recognition by Israel of the “Somaliland” area of the Federal Republic of Somalia, which drew condemnation from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and different international locations.

“It’s a direct assault on Somalia’s internationally recognised borders,” stated Pakistan’s Performing Everlasting Consultant to the UN, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, whereas addressing the UNSC’s briefing on Monday.

He added that Tel Aviv’s transfer “constitutes a flagrant violation of worldwide legislation.”

Israel grew to become the primary nation to formally recognise the self-declared Republic of Somaliland as an unbiased and sovereign state on Friday. This resolution may reshape regional dynamics and take a look at Somalia’s longstanding opposition to secession.

Pakistan’s Overseas Workplace had strongly reacted to the Israeli announcement, terming it a violation of worldwide norms and affirming Islamabad’s full assist for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia.

The OIC and different international locations, in a joint assertion issued on Sunday, slammed Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, terming it a menace to worldwide peace and safety.

China and the UK (UK) are additionally among the many international locations that refused to recognise the Somaliland area as unbiased.

“The ‘Somaliland’ area stays an integral, inseparable, and inalienable a part of Somalia. No exterior actor has both the authorized standing or the ethical authority to change that elementary actuality,” stated the envoy.

“A bunch of OIC international locations, together with Pakistan, has unequivocally rejected Israel’s illegal transfer, noting its severe repercussions for peace and safety within the Horn of Africa, the Crimson Sea area, and worldwide peace and safety as a complete. The joint assertion phrases the ‘recognition of components of States’ a violation of the cardinal rules of worldwide legislation and the United Nations Constitution,” stated Jadoon.

The ambassador praised the President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud-led Somalian authorities for making progress on nationwide reconciliation, constitutional reforms, and the revitalisation of state establishments.

“Equally, the phased two-year transition of the United Nations presence in Somalia is progressing easily. The handover of tasks underneath the primary part of the United Nations Transitional Help Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) has been accomplished, and the roadmap for the second and closing part has been finalised, with the Mission scheduled to stop operations on October 31, 2026.”

Islamabad additionally acknowledged the sacrifices and resilience of the Somali folks and their safety forces, supported by AU-UN missions, in opposition to terrorism.

Pakistan urged that the optimistic momentum should be protected and strengthened, not undermined by actions that danger fragmenting the nation and reversing hard-won progress.

“Due to this fact, at this pivotal juncture, when Somalia is targeted on defeating extremism, any motion that diverts consideration, weakens cohesion, or fuels division is profoundly irresponsible.”

In opposition to the backdrop of Israel’s earlier references to Somaliland as a vacation spot for the deportation of Palestinian folks, particularly from Gaza, Jadoon stated that its illegal recognition of the area is deeply troubling.

“For many years, Israel’s dispossession and occupation of Palestinian land have been a central supply of instability and battle within the Center East,” stated the envoy.
