Practically three months after college students and academics launched protests demanding the elimination of Tezpur College Vice Chancellor (VC) Shambhu Nath Singh, the Ministry of Schooling (MoE) requested him to proceed on go away and ordered the establishing of an enquiry panel to probe into the allegations in opposition to him, based on officers.

The college has been witnessing sustained protests since mid-September in opposition to irregularities allegedly dedicated by Singh.

The protesters pursued a 24-hour starvation strike on Monday on the completion of 100 days of their agitation with none success.

“A 3-member enquiry panel has been set as much as probe into all issues pertaining to the continued scenario in Tezpur College together with allegations levelled in opposition to the Vice Chancellor. The VC shall recuse himself from all duties and proceed on go away instantly and shall stay on go away until the completion of enquiry,” a senior MoE official mentioned.

 

The enquiry panel has been requested to submit its report inside a most of three months. The committee might be headed by Manipur College Vice Chancellor N Lokendra Singh.

The opposite two members of the panel are Nagaland College Vice Chancellor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik and UGC Secretary Manish R Joshi.

In the meantime, the ministry has appointed Amrendra Kumar Das from IIT Guwahati’s Division of Design as Professional Vice Chancellor of Tezpur College.

Earlier this month, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had spoken to Union Schooling Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urging him to nominate a Professional Vice Chancellor instantly to revive tutorial stability on the campus.

Tezpur College, one of many two central universities in Assam established in 1994 underneath the 1985 Assam Accord, has been witnessing turmoil since September 27 final 12 months and requires the VC’s elimination have intensified.

The scenario in Tezpur College had been tense with college students accusing the VC and varsity authorities of not displaying due respect to cultural icon Zubeen Garg, even because the state was mourning his loss of life.

Aside from fiscal irregularities, the varsity group can also be protesting the alleged deforestation and ecological destruction on the picturesque campus carried out underneath Singh’s administration.

The VC abstained from the campus after the college witnessed heated scenes and an trade of phrases between Singh and college students on September 22. It led to a scenario the place he needed to practically flee from the spot.

At the least 11 college members and senior officers have both resigned from their posts or left the college for the reason that protests started in September.
