Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s 98th birth anniversary being observed today

The 98th delivery anniversary of former prime minister and founding father of the Pakistan Peoples Celebration (PPP), Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, is being noticed throughout the nation as we speak (Monday).

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was born on January 5, 1928, in Larkana. His father, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto, served because the dewan of the previous princely state of Junagadh. Bhutto obtained his training on the College of California, Berkeley, and the College of Oxford, and later educated as a barrister at Lincoln’s Inn.

He entered politics as a member of President Iskander Mirza’s cupboard and went on to carry a number of key portfolios throughout the navy rule of President Ayub Khan. In 1967, he based the Pakistan Peoples Celebration, which went on to play a central position within the nation’s political panorama.

Bhutto served as Pakistan’s fourth president from 1971 to 1973 and later turned prime minister on August 14, 1973, following the unanimous adoption of the 1973 Structure by parliament.

Though the PPP received the 1977 common elections, the outcomes have been contested by a conservative opposition alliance, triggering widespread protests and political unrest. Citing the deteriorating law-and-order state of affairs and allegations of rigging, then military chief Basic Ziaul Haq imposed martial regulation on July 5, 1977.

Bhutto was subsequently arrested and tried in a homicide case, finally being sentenced to dying. He was executed at Rawalpindi Jail on April 4, 1979.

Commenting on the event, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab mentioned that Bhutto’s execution marked the top of standard politics within the nation. He added that in a later presidential reference, the Supreme Courtroom reviewed the case and declared the judicial course of towards Bhutto to have been unjust.
