Bharatiya Janata Occasion (BJP) candidate Saurabh Joshi, 44, was elected the brand new mayor of Chandigarh as a saffron wave swept by the municipal company (MC) Home on Thursday after the Aam Aadmi Occasion (AAP) and the Congress failed kind out their variations forward of the annual mayoral elections.

Voting began at 11 am with nominated councillor Ramneek Singh Bedi because the presiding officer. Consistent with the modification to Regulation 6 of the Chandigarh Municipal Company (Process and Conduct of Enterprise) Rules, 1996, the voting was finished by a present of arms. All councillors, together with Member of Parliament (MP) Manish Tewari, who has an ex officio vote within the Home, additionally gave a verbal affirmation after elevating their arms.

All councillors voted on get together strains and Joshi secured 18 votes within the 36-member home, whereas Congress candidate Gurpreet Singh Gabbi obtained seven votes and AAP’s Yogesh Dhingra obtained 11 votes. AAP insurgent Ram Chander Yadav, who was preventing for the deputy mayor’s submit as an Impartial, withdrew his nomination on the final second and solid his vote in favour of AAP candidate Jaswinder Kaur.

After the voting for the mayor’s submit concluded, and it grew to become clear that Joshi was successful, all six Congress councillors, together with MP Tewari, walked out of the Home and abstained from voting for polls of the senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor.
