
LUCENA CITY — A magnitude 5 earthquake struck the coastal city of Calatagan in Batangas province early Sunday, March 8, in line with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). Phivolcs stated the quake occurred at 12:04 a.m., with its epicenter situated 9 kilometers northeast of the municipality. The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 142 kilometers. The earthquake was recorded at Instrumental Depth II in Batangas Metropolis and the city of Cuenca in Batangas province; Tagaytay Metropolis in Cavite; Mamburao in Occidental Mindoro; and Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro.
