Public Safety and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala says that greater than 600 kilograms of narcotics have been found aboard a multi-day fishing vessel that was taken into the custody of the Navy on suspicion of transporting medicine.

The Minister acknowledged that the multi-day fishing vessel is anticipated to be introduced ashore inside the subsequent two days. He added {that a} appreciable amount of weapons was additionally discovered on board and brought into the custody of the safety forces.

The vessel had been taken into Navy custody throughout a particular operation carried out within the deep seas south of Sri Lanka.

In the meantime, on the seventh, the Sri Lanka Navy additionally took into custody one other fishing vessel suspected of transporting narcotics throughout a particular search operation carried out off the southern coast. Authorities found 102 kilograms of heroin and 900 grams of cocaine on board.

These medicine have been discovered following an investigation carried out after the multi-day fishing vessel was dropped at the Dikkowita Harbour.

Through the operation, six suspects who have been on board the vessel have been additionally arrested.

The Sri Lanka Navy has seized a multi-day fishing vessel suspected of transporting a consignment of narcotics and weapons.

The vessel was intercepted throughout a particular naval operation in deep waters off Sri Lanka’s southern coast, Navy sources confirmed.
