Sri Lanka declined to hitch over 130 UN member states that co-sponsored a United Nations Safety Council (UNSC) decision condemning Iran’s “egregious assaults” on its regional neighbours. The decision was adopted on March 11, 2026. “We don’t contain any country-specific decision as a coverage,” Overseas Minister Vijitha Herath mentioned when requested for Sri Lanka’s determination to not co-sponsor the decision.
India was among the many co-sponsors of the Bahrain-led decision together with greater than 130 nations, together with Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Ukraine, the UAE, the UK, the US, Yemen, and Zambia.
On the Safety Council, 13 of the 15 members voted in favour, with Russia and China, two everlasting members, abstaining on the vote.
By the phrases of the decision, the Council condemned “within the strongest phrases” Iran’s assaults in opposition to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan and reiterated its sturdy help for these nations’ sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.
The decision didn’t condemn the US-Israeli aggression on Iran.
