Former IAS officer Kanwaljeet Singh Cheema joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Chandigarh on Thursday within the presence of celebration president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Cheema, a 1993-batch West Bengal-cadre officer, beforehand served as particular principal secretary to former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal throughout a long-term inter-cadre deputation.

Welcoming him into the fold, Sukhbir Singh Badal stated Cheema’s administrative experience would considerably strengthen the celebration. He famous that Cheema additionally served as particular principal secretary to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, bringing expertise from each states.

“Throughout his tenure with Parkash Singh Badal, Cheema was instrumental in executing ‘sangat darshan’ programmes, working intently to resolve public grievances on the grassroots,” Sukhbir stated.

Following the induction, he took to X to reiterate the SAD’s achieve: “Glad to welcome former IAS officer Kanwaljeet Singh Cheema into the SAD fold as we speak. His huge administrative expertise and dedication to public service, particularly his time serving below S Parkash Singh Badal ji, can be a significant asset to the celebration in our mission to serve Punjab.”

Sukhbir used the event to lash out on the AAP authorities, accusing the Bhagwant Mann dispensation of inflating financial knowledge. He claimed that Punjab obtained solely ₹2,600 crore in precise investments between 2022 and 2026, regardless of the federal government’s claims of ₹1.5 lakh crore.

“This authorities depends on lies to mislead the general public. Past financial failure, there’s complete lawlessness within the state, with gangsters ruling the roost,” the SAD chief alleged.
