Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) – The Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin, and Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia Pekka Kaihilahti met on Wednesday to discover potential collaborations in good infrastructure and training.

Throughout the assembly held on the Makassar Metropolis Corridor, Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday, Arifuddin emphasised that town authorities is open to collaboration, significantly for relevant technological options which have a direct impression on the group.

Nonetheless, he famous that the implementation of large-scale tasks on the regional stage in Indonesia is topic to central authorities laws. However, he asserted that the door stays open for smaller-scale collaborations.

He steered that preliminary cooperation may concentrate on easier tasks, equivalent to water administration initiatives.

Particularly, he highlighted alternatives to deal with the pressing want for electrical energy within the metropolis’s island territories, as some islands at the moment solely have entry to electrical energy for about six hours per day.

Moreover, he underscored the significance of collaboration within the training sector, together with the event of the training system by way of joint pilot tasks with Finland.

As a part of the collaboration, he additionally inspired exchanges of experiences and instructor capacity-building.

“We are able to collaborate on the training system, equivalent to a pilot mission for faculties in Makassar. We are able to construct this collectively,” the mayor mentioned.

Lastly, he invited the ambassador to attend the Indonesia Gastrodiplomacy Collection (IGS) Diplomatic Tour 2026 to be held in Makassar this June.

In the meantime, Ambassador Kaihilahti defined that Finland has a cooperation framework that provides each good know-how assist and financing, involving Finnish company ecosystems throughout numerous sectors.

He famous that Finland is searching for alternatives to collaborate with native governments and even native firms on good infrastructure tasks.
