The Nationwide Dengue Management Unit’s knowledge system has reportedly been out of service since yesterday (June 25), disrupting the updating of dengue case data throughout the nation.

Appearing Director of the Nationwide Dengue Management Unit – Dr. Kapila Kannangara, stated the surprising surge in day by day dengue instances had overwhelmed the system, inflicting it to fail.

A complete of 14,446 dengue instances have been reported in June thus far, whereas 1,069 instances have been recorded on June 22 alone.

Over the previous 02 weeks, day by day case numbers have constantly exceeded 500, ranging between 750 – 1,000.

Officers stated the system’s capability was inadequate to deal with the elevated quantity of knowledge.

As of yesterday morning (June 25), almost 49,000 dengue instances had been reported nationwide this 12 months.

Dr. Kannangara stated the outage prevented Medical Officer of Well being (MOH) workplaces from updating case knowledge yesterday.

He added that IT officers have been tasked with increasing the system’s capability, though delays in updating in the present day’s (June 26) dengue figures are nonetheless anticipated.

In the meantime, Appearing President of the Public Well being Inspectors’ Union of Sri Lanka – Upul Rohana, stated authorized motion has been initiated in opposition to greater than 5,000 people discovered to have maintained mosquito breeding websites throughout the nation.

He warned that dengue has now reached epidemic ranges, including that well being authorities are prioritising dengue management efforts nationwide.

In response to Rohana, healthcare workers have been redeployed from their routine duties to help with prevention and management actions, whereas some hospitals are reportedly working past their inpatient capability because of the rising variety of dengue sufferers.
