Tehran: America launched new strikes on Iran on Wednesday after President Donald Trump vowed to hit “onerous” following Iranian assaults on ships within the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump, whereas ordering retaliation towards Tehran, stated he anticipated the newest navy flare-up to finish rapidly and left the door open to extra talks.

US Central Command stated the strikes had been carried out to degrade the power of Iranian forces “to threaten freedom of navigation” within the strait, by means of which a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied pure fuel usually flows.

“America is holding Iran accountable for current unjustified aggression towards industrial delivery,” CENTCOM stated on X.

Iran’s Mehr information company stated explosions had been heard within the port cities of Bandar Abbas, Konarak and Chabahar.

Earlier than ordering the newest strikes, Trump stated the ceasefire with Iran was over, prompting mediators Pakistan and Qatar and the United Nations to name for de-escalation.

The Strait of Hormuz stays a flashpoint within the Center East battle, which started in late February with US-Israeli strikes that killed Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme chief who’s to be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday.

Tehran insists on controlling the strait, saying it should cost charges for passage and threatening to hit vessels that deviate from its authorised route.

Its navy struck no less than three ships in current days, prompting intensive US strikes towards Iranian targets on Tuesday, adopted by retaliatory assaults from Iran on Gulf international locations.

“We’re gonna hit ’em onerous tonight,” Trump stated at a NATO summit in Ankara. “They violate the settlement day-after-day.”

He added later, nevertheless, that “something that occurs goes to be over in a short time.”

Oil costs jumped eight % after Trump’s earlier feedback that the ceasefire was “over.”
