Denpasar (ANTARA) – Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has backed plans to broaden Lt. Col. Wisnu Airfield in Buleleng District, remodeling it into an air transport hub for northern Bali to ease strain on the Ngurah Rai Worldwide Airport.

“That is about growing an current airport. We hope to comprehend the initiative to allow northern Bali to develop and sustain with southern Bali,” Purwagandhi mentioned throughout a gathering with Bali Governor Wayan Koster in Denpasar on Saturday.

Purwagandhi said that the initiative underscores the central authorities’s dedication to addressing Bali’s transport bottlenecks, citing Ngurah Rai’s capability constraints and insufficient maritime transport connectivity amid rising tourism demand.

The minister additionally confirmed that the federal government has formally shelved long-delayed plans to assemble the multibillion-dollar North Bali Worldwide Airport in Kubutambahan, Buleleng, successfully ending years of public and political debate over the greenfield venture.

“I can guarantee you that Lt. Col. Wisnu Airfield in Buleleng will probably be our sole focus, particularly since land and environmental considerations have largely been resolved,” Purwagandhi mentioned.

To speed up the venture, the Transportation Ministry plans to ask personal sector firms to spend money on the airfield’s infrastructure improvement.

Governor Koster said that the provincial authorities has already initiated preparatory measures for the growth, together with establishing a state-owned regional enterprise entity and drafting land acquisition frameworks.

“Our plan is to develop Lt. Col. Wisnu Airfield right into a special-purpose airport, able to dealing with emergency diversions if points come up at Ngurah Rai,” Koster defined.

He added that the upgraded airfield can also be anticipated to accommodate personal jets, chartered flights, and air cargo logistics to strengthen the province’s general aviation community.
