Dublin [Ireland], July 15 (ANI): Former England batter and ex-Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott has been appointed as a short-term advisor for the Eire males’s group forward of their five-match ODI sequence towards Afghanistan subsequent month, Cricket Eire introduced on Tuesday (native time).

Trott’s appointment comes at a vital stage for Eire as they construct in the direction of the ICC Males’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in early 2027. The 45-year-old will spend 14 days with the squad, supporting preparations for the sequence and advising the group in the course of the opening two ODIs towards Afghanistan.

Trott represented England in 52 Exams, 68 One-Day Internationals and 7 T20Is between 2007 and 2015, scoring 13 worldwide centuries. He later moved into teaching, serving with England Below-19s, Warwickshire, Kent and Scotland earlier than taking cost of Afghanistan in 2022. He remained Afghanistan’s head coach till February 2026.

His appointment additionally comes amid studies linking him with England’s vacant Check teaching place following Brendon McCullum’s departure.

Eire will host Afghanistan in a five-match ODI sequence starting on August 5 at Bready, with the remaining fixtures scheduled throughout Bready and Stormont. The sequence follows Eire’s historic first-ever bilateral sequence victory over India, achieved with a 2-0 sweep in a T20I sequence in Belfast. (ANI)
