Japan will present its next-generation E10 sequence Shinkansen trains to India for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Excessive-Pace Rail (MAHSR) mission, official spokespersons within the Ministries of Exterior Affairs and Railways mentioned on Friday, addressing queries on the standing of the mission.

“India-Japan discussions on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad excessive velocity prepare are progressing properly. Japan will present E10 sequence prepare within the early 2030s. The prepare continues to be underneath growth. In the meantime, development work is quickly progressing. First part shall be opened in 2027,” a spokesperson from the Ministry of Railways mentioned.

The clarification is available in response to a current crucial social media put up by a former Japanese Minister concerning the mission, which shall be India’s first bullet prepare community. In the put up, Hideki Makihara, a member of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Get together, had blamed New Delhi for the timeline delays. He had additionally flagged considerations over the Japanese facet allegedly being “excluded from the signalling system” of the high-speed community.

The MEA clarified that the assertion represented an “particular person opinion” that stands at “appreciable variance with details.”

Japan has been enjoying a key position in implementation of the mega mission when it comes to financing it in addition to sharing of know-how, and engineering experience.

Railway officers mentioned that India and Japan had agreed to start out the operations with an Indian high-speed prepare, which is slated to run at an operational velocity of 280 kmph.

The prepare is at present being developed indigenously by BEML Restricted and the Integral Coach Manufacturing unit. “We are going to begin off through the use of the indigenous prepare as a result of India needs to make the Surat-Bilimora part in Gujarat operational by August 2027, and the Japanese E10 trains will solely arrive in 2030,” officers mentioned.

Launch in 2027

Civil development work alongside the 508-km hall has accelerated quickly, officers mentioned. The Railway Ministry has awarded a young to German multinational Siemens for set up of signalling techniques alongside the bullet prepare hall stretch, with a view of starting the operations by 2027.  “The signalling tools has been ordered accordingly and is consistent with worldwide specs. No Japanese supply was obtained on this context. The mission execution is consistent with the frequent purpose of beginning the high-speed prepare mission on the earliest,” the MEA spokesperson said.

“This interim section will permit Indian Railways to develop operational familiarity and set up system confidence earlier than transitioning to the 320 kmph Japanese E10 units in 2030,” a senior supply within the Railway Ministry mentioned.

India is deploying the European Practice Management System (ETCS), which is a contemporary, radio-based digital signalling structure. “The radio-based ETCS system represents a big improve over legacy Second World Conflict-era coaxial copper cable techniques, which endure from sign leakage and are extremely susceptible to localised copper cable theft,” the Railway Ministry supply mentioned.

The supply added that the E10 Shinkansen trains may run on ETCS know-how, and its major function was to behave as a standardised, interoperable signalling system. Quoting the Taiwan Excessive-Pace Rail instance, the supply added that such interoperability – Japanese-built Shinkansen trains working on a European-style signalling community – has been a follow globally.
