WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Chief Programming Government and Common Supervisor for Common Viewers Programming at PBS has unexpectedly handed away, President/CEO Paula Kerger shared in an announcement launched by the general public tv service on Monday.

Sylvia Bugg died over the weekend, Kerger shared.

In accordance with Present, Bugg was 55 years of age. She had been in her position at PBS since October 2020.

In an announcement, Kerger commented, “Over many years in public media, together with her management on the Company for Public Broadcasting and three chapters of service right here at PBS, Sylvia formed the programming that defines our service to the American folks. She introduced ahead landmark movies throughout historical past, science, and the humanities, and guided our America 250 slate via a defining yr. She will likely be gratefully remembered for her dedication to making sure public media’s programming displays a broad vary of voices and views.”

Kerger added that Bugg was “a powerful advocate for schooling, each within the packages she supported and in her personal life, as proven by her a number of superior levels, together with a latest doctorate.”

Bugg held a Grasp’s Diploma in Journalism and Public Affairs from American College in Washington, D.C., earned in 1997. In 2012, she would earn an MBA from the College of Maryland. Bugg additionally held a doctorate of schooling in organizational change and management from the College of Southern California.

From late 1999 via March 2012 she was related to Discovery Inc., serving as Director of Operations and Supervisor of Editorial Assessment & Growth from its then-Silver Springs, Md., headquarters.
