TUGUEGARAO CITY-The Provincial Catastrophe Threat Discount and Administration Council (PDRRMC) has advisable the extension of the state of calamity in Cagayan province till December 31 due to lingering El Niño drought.
Cesar Cuntapay, PDRRMO officer-in-charge, stated the decision was transmitted to the Cagayan provincial board on Thursday, urging it to retain the state of calamity as a result of excessive warmth and the shortage of rain have severely affected agriculture, fisheries, water assets, and different sources of livelihood.
As of July 21, 76,328 hectares of farmland and native fisheries have been affected by the dry spell, with an estimated 64,978 farmers and fishermen immediately impacted, and the entire crop injury has reached P1.44 billion.
